How to keep your YouTube fans (even when the bell doesn't ring)

You worked hard for every subscriber. But a subscriber isn't a viewer. Whether someone actually hears about your new video is mostly up to YouTube, not you.

This guide shows you how to fix that with a list of fans you own. It's for any creator, big or small: gaming, cooking, music, fitness, podcasts, vlogs. Set it up once and every upload after that reaches the people who asked for it.

Quick version: claim your free link at fallo.ai/signup, paste fallo.ai/yourhandle into your descriptions and pinned comment, and fallo emails your fans every time a new video, premiere or live stream goes public.

1. Why the bell fails

When someone subscribes, YouTube sets their bell to "Personalized" by default. That means YouTube picks which of your uploads that fan is told about. Plenty of them never get a notification at all.

By fallo's count, under the default "Personalized" bell only about 9 in every 100 subscribers get notified about a typical new video. That's fallo's figure, based on its look at YouTube's biggest creators, and it's the reason fallo exists.

It gets worse after a break. If a fan hasn't watched you in a while, YouTube is even less likely to ring the bell for them. Take a few months off and your first video back can land in front of a small slice of the people who once subscribed.

See it for your own channel. fallo's free Bell Check tool estimates how many of a channel's subscribers a typical upload actually reaches. Run it on yours, then run it on a channel you admire. It's a quick reality check.

An email works differently. It doesn't depend on a feed or an algorithm. It sits in your fan's inbox until they're ready to watch.

2. Own your audience

With fallo, you get your own email list for YouTube. Fans join at fallo.ai/yourhandle or by scanning your QR code. From then on:

  • New video goes public? Every fan gets an email with your thumbnail, title and a Watch button.
  • Premiere goes public? Same thing.
  • Going live? Fans get a Watch live email the moment your stream starts.

You don't write or send anything. fallo checks your channel and does it for you. And the list is yours: you can download it any time.

The more places fans see your link, the faster your list grows. Start with these:

  • Video descriptions. Put fallo.ai/yourhandle near the top, so it shows before "...more".
  • Pinned comment. One line: "Get an email when I post: fallo.ai/yourhandle".
  • Your fan page. Your fallo link opens a fan page with your channel, so people know exactly what they're joining.
  • On stream. fallo gives you QR codes in transparent, light and dark versions. Drop the see-through one in a corner of your stream overlay so viewers can scan it with their phone.
  • End screens. Add the QR code to your final seconds, next to your usual end-screen cards.
  • Merch and print. fallo provides print files, so your QR code can go on shirts, mugs, stickers, posters or a card in your packages.
  • Everywhere else. Your channel banner links, bio links on other platforms, and community posts.

Tip: say it out loud, too. "Link's in the description if you want an email when the next one's out" works better than hoping people notice.

3. Your first 48 hours: launch checklist

You don't need a big launch. You need a few small steps done well. Here's a simple plan.

Hour 0: set up

  • ☐ Go to fallo.ai/signup and claim your handle.
  • ☐ Verify your channel by signing in with Google. This proves the channel is yours, so nobody else can collect fans or send emails in your name.
  • ☐ Look over your fan page and make sure it feels like you.
  • ☐ Download your QR codes (transparent, light and dark) and the print files.
  • ☐ Add fallo.ai/yourhandle to the descriptions of your most-watched videos first, then your newest ones.
  • ☐ Pin a comment with your link on your latest video.
  • ☐ Add the transparent QR code to your stream overlay.
  • ☐ Add your link to your channel links and your bios elsewhere.
  • ☐ Post a community post: "I'm starting an email list so you never miss a video. Join here: fallo.ai/yourhandle".

Hours 12 to 24: turn on growth

  • ☐ Set up a fan reward for fans who bring friends (more on this below).
  • ☐ Look at your recommendations and agree to a fan swap with a channel that fits yours.

Hours 24 to 48: tell people and check in

  • ☐ Mention your list in your next video or stream, and point to the link or QR code.
  • ☐ Open your dashboard and see where your first fans came from.
  • ☐ Double-check that your link is in every new upload's description going forward.

That's it. After this, fallo handles the emails on its own.

4. Grow by referral

The best new fans often come from your current fans. fallo builds sharing into everything.

Share buttons in every email

Every video email includes share buttons for WhatsApp, text, X and copy link. When a fan sends your video to a friend, the friend lands on a page that plays your video and asks if they'd like your next one by email, too. One share can bring in a new fan.

Fan rewards

Pick a thank-you for fans who bring friends. It could be a shout-out, a sticker, early access, or anything that fits your channel. fallo counts the friends each fan brings, tells the fan when they've earned the reward, and tells you who to send it to. You stay in charge of what the reward is and how you deliver it. More about fan rewards.

Recommendations and fan swaps

fallo looks at the videos you make and finds creators with similar channels. When you and another creator agree to a swap, each of you is recommended to the other's fans. Both lists grow, and fans discover channels they'll actually like.

"Fans also follow"

Right after someone joins your list, they see a few creators like you and can add them with one tap. It works the other way, too: fans joining similar channels can see you and join your list.

5. Measure it

You can't improve what you can't see. Your fallo dashboard shows:

  • Fan sources. Where each fan joined from, so you know if your pinned comments, stream QR code or merch are pulling their weight. fallo tracks which video each fan came from.
  • Opens and watches per send. For every email, see how many fans opened it and how many tapped Watch.
  • CSV export. Download your full list any time. It's yours to keep.

Simple ways to use what you see

  • If one placement brings in most of your fans, use it more. If the stream QR code works, keep it on screen longer.
  • Compare opens and watches across sends. Notice which titles and thumbnails get fans to tap Watch, and learn from them.
  • Check your fan sources after a fan swap to see how many new people it brought in.

Frequently asked questions

Is fallo really free?

Yes. fallo is $0 for every creator, with every feature included: video and live alerts, your fan page, QR codes, share pages, fan rewards, recommendations and the dashboard. No credit card and no trial clock.

Will my fans see ads in the emails?

No. fallo doesn't put ads in your emails. It also never sells or shares your fans' emails and never emails them for its own purposes.

Do I have to write or send the emails myself?

No. fallo checks your channel and emails your fans when a new video, premiere or live stream goes public. Each email has your thumbnail, title and a Watch button (or a Watch live button for streams). You just upload as normal.

Won't my fans get tired of the emails?

Fans only get emails because they asked to. And if a fan follows several creators on fallo, they can switch to one roundup a day or a week, at a time they choose. Your video is still in it, and live streams still go out straight away.

Can someone else make a fallo list for my channel?

No. You verify your channel by signing in with Google, so only you can collect fans or send emails in your channel's name.

Can I take my list with me?

Yes. You can export your list as a CSV from the dashboard any time.

How many of my subscribers actually get notified on YouTube?

It varies by channel. By fallo's count, under the default "Personalized" bell only about 9 in 100 subscribers get notified about a typical new video. Try Bell Check to see an estimate for your channel.
